Farmall 400 cast weld

I have a Farmall 400LP with a 1957 368 Lincoln V8. The water jacket on the front left has an inch long crack in it. I have sealed it with stop leak. Can I weld the cast without causing more damage? If so, then how? Or is there some way to prevent the crack from getting any bigger?
