NEVER ask a barber if you need a haircut! He will always say yes. That's what his business is. Spend the money if it makes you feel better, but a good engineer will tell you it makes no difference in how it pulls. If it runs true...it may wear very slightly faster until it is worn in, and from then on, there is no difference. Slight grooving doesn't even matter. The friction is totally independent of the contact area...only dependent on the material properties and the pressure of the springs. I just did an experiment with what had been a chattering clutch. I sandblasted all surfaces including the lining, and reassembled it. It now works like a dream! YMMV George Willer
