if you shorted the field term to ground and no charge the gen is bad you can get one from T.H.E. CO for 75 exchange they oay the ups on return of the core the cpre charge is 50 these are from HARVEY BROS in GALESBURG ILL have been in rebuild business for years good stuff and guaranteed lots of these readers that think they have to go to 12v need a good rebuilt starter that wuold end the problem
