I remember being told by an instructor in an ag mech class when I was in college, in about 1973 that the expected "life" of a tractor engine is about 12,000 hours. I know of several tractors which have near 30,000 hours and have also seen parts tractors with less than 10,000. If you see a late model tractor with something like 10,000 hour on it then it is a candidate for a reduced price. This is just like the discount you would expect for a truck with 250,000 miles on it. As an hour on a tractor is usually at rated load. I figure equivilent miles in terms of highway miles, 60mph, and also remember that car engines are not like tractor engines, either in how they are used or how they are made. I regard tractor hours more like semi truck tractor miles.
