The clamshells were about it from IH itself. However, a common farmer modification was to put on Oliver or JD fenders on that had the flat top and the handholds. They actually look good on the tractor (painted red, of course)and they're quite nice to have for transplanting, etc. The neighbor's Super M that I grew up on had them.
