Dick: Thanks for your prompt response. Let me reword what I saw when I checked the voltage. The tractor has a 12-volt negative ground system. The voltage across the terminals of the battery was 12.05 volts. The reading between the negative terminal of the battery and the wire that attaches to the coil (with the wire unconnected from the coil) was 11.79 volts. I assume that is due to a resistor between the coil and the switch (I didn't find it yet). But, when the wire on the coil that comes from the battery is connected to the coil, the read between that post on the coil to the negative post of the battery is 7.54 volts. That drop from 11.79 volts when unconnected to 7.54 volts when connected was a surprise to me. May be normal, but was curious. Thanks again and I hope this helps explain how dumb I am about electrical circuits on tractors.

Tractor Traction - by Chris Pratt. Our first bout with traction problems came when cultivatin with our Massey-Harris Pony. Up till then, this tractor had been running a corn grinder and pulling a trailer. It had new unfilled rear tires and no wheel weights. The garden was already sprouting when we hooked up the mid-mount shovel cultivators to the Pony. The seed bed was soft enough that the rear end would spin and slowly work its way to the downhill side of the gardens slight incline. From this, we learned our lesson sinc
