I listened in on the news conference announcing it last week. Ford will discontinue production of the F-650 and F-750 medium-duty lines and replace them with the joint-venture truck. The Ford and the Navistar trucks will share a common chassis and powertrain, but the exterior sheetmetal and interior will be exclusive to each. They are expecting it will take two years to bring the new truck to the market. The Navistar version will be sold only in Mexico and further south. The Ford version will be sold in the U.S. They said they may even develop smaller commercial vehicles. Maybe Navistar will get back into the light-truck business?? I can only hope. Maybe Ford will build 'em for Navistar.

Ford did sell its OTR tractors to Freightliner in 1996. Navistar is developing a new, smaller V8 turbodiesel(with more power, more torque, and better fuel economy) to replace the PowerStroke in 2002 or 2003, as well as a new 4.5-liter V6 turbodiesel for the F-150.

Have you guys seen the new Navistar medium-duty truck they introduced last week? Wow! It's one sharp truck! It will be built in Springfield, OH. Here's a link. Punch the link halfway down the page that says, "The Industry's First High Performance Trucks". Wish I could afford one.

Today's Featured Article - Ford Part Number Trivia - by Forum Participants. "Replaced by" means the part was superseded. All of my part books date back to 1964 and New Holland have changed some part numbers. They usually put the old Ford part number on the package. I was suppressed when I looked up the part number of the auxiliary drive shaft because for some reason the part number went through a radical change and it lost its "Basic Part Number". Ford part numbers follow the following rules. Most part numbers are in three parts. The middle part is called the ... [Read Article]
