Never worked on a B, but I suppose is the same as all the other letter Farmalls. You take the big plug out of the front of the steering gear, take the steering shaft loose at the universal joint, or the steering wheel off (As on an A or Super A) and then screw the worm gear and shaft out the front through the hole where the plug was. There is a ball bearing on the front that takes the thrust of the worm gear. The plug holds the bearing in place. I wonder how you got the worm gear to move back at all, as the bearing on the front should hold it from doing that.
