You did not state where you are located and the colder regions the lower temperatures need to be considered when changing the batteries. However, when you tractor was new the amps of 6 volt batteries was not all that high. Today a single new 12 battery can have more amps than two old 6 volts. You just need to be selective when you purchase the replacement. Here in N C, I have substituted a single 12 volt battery in all my 12 equipment that formerly had two batteries. I use Deka brand and I feel that these deliver the amps stated on the label. Never consider substituting car batteries for diesel tractor applications, you will only be disappointed. A single battery of high enough amperage will perform better for you than the original setup. Good luck.
