How deep to set coulters on 55 plow

I was wondering how deep to set my coulters on my complete rebuilt 55 john deere plow. I have the plow manual and set them according to the manual. My question is do I reset the coulters based on the points wearing down? Thanks

Really the only thing they do is cut trash so it flows around the share, and doesn t plug the plow. I like mine to cut around 5 inches deep. Just try to keep the hubs out of the dirt, they really do not need to be plowing in the ground, just following it some.

A general rule of thumb is that the coulters should cut half the plowing depth. Keep in mind that the deeper you set the coulters the harder it may be to get the plow in the ground. This may become an issue in drier ground.

My opinion is that the plow will dig up sod, clump grass, and hard ground in clumps if you don't slice it before rolling it over in clay soils like mine. I wouldn't have a moldboard or ripper without coulters and to me the depth is just below where it cuts the clump grass or sod root wad......4-5 like 405 mentioned.
