No till planters for Ford 861

Can I pull a 4 row no till planter with my Ford 861?

I know she has pulled an antique 4 row planter after tillage. I don't know if going no till would be pushing it. If it's doable but marginal, borrowing a tractor is an option. But we all know how busy it is at planting season.

Can she pull a no till drill? My county has a LP 606NT that's 9 openers at 7.5 inch spacing. They are claiming it requires a 40 horsepower. Of course the horsepower rating on old Fords is part folklore and part fuzzy math so I didn't know what to tell the conservation officer.

Looking for advice, perspective, experience.

If the planter has aggressive no til coulters that run near hub deep, no, your Ford
will not pull it. If you put lots of weights on the tractor, it might pull it in
low gear, but no til coulters are more effective at 3 to 6 mph.

I wanted to run my JD 7000 4 row with my 960. Seemed like a perfect Mach. Not notill, but granular fertilizer with openers.

Couldn’t lift the planter, unfortunately. Power would hav be ok. So, you might need to worry about the hydraulics.....

Notill, I don’t know. I’d think the planter would pull easier than the drill.

Thanks for the knowledge. Perhaps a 2 row planter would work? There's one available locally that I could add no till coulters to.

Good point. I was going to have to upgrade the hydraulic valve on the tractor for two lines, but if it won't lift it or is marginal, I shouldn't bother. Thank you.

We had a 801 Ford pulled a 4 row JD planter with a midwest harrow in front and fertilizer. Hyd lifted it fine. Just a little slow. Pull a 6 row kinzer no-till planter with a 4320 JD compact tractor. 50 Hp. Our old Ford would pull 50 ho on the dyno. It will be fine. Just need hyd set at 1800 psi.
