Hay field what to do with it

So I looked at my hay area today and it is nice and tall but I don't have room in my hay barn for more then maybe 10 more bales of hay. Big round one that is. Might do some squares but would not have room for more then maybe 50 of them. So do I leave it standing and not worry about it or do I cut it and if I cut it brush hog or sickle bar mower

I cut some prairie hay today that could not be cut last year (way too wet). It had last year's growth underneath, and that junk plugged up the sickle mower guards a lot. So I guess if you can cut the hay this year yet and get the plant material off the field, having the field cleaned up for next year is well worth it, even if you don't keep the hay for feed.

If the sun is shining, I’d make hay of it.

Rounds can store outside a while if that’s all ya got.

These would be out of a NH850 twine wrap so not as good as net wrap for storing

If I needed the hay I'd cut and bale if not I'd bush hog it real close to the ground to rot and feed next year's crop.Cutting it with a flail mower would be even better it cuts the grass up more and decomposes quicker and more even.

If you have a billboard company around, ask about old signs for tarps. Stack them two wide and one on top, cover with the tarp. I have seen several people put pallets under them also.

Up till 2 weeks ago it has been dry but now in the last 2 or so weeks we have had around 6 inch if not more and still raining

One of the reasons I bought a DRUM mower for fields not needing crimping. Drums solve all the problems of a sickle....for me anyway.....and some don't like the WW that most drums produce. Currently my equipment is setup for 6' widths, both plowing and mowing. The WW the 6' drum produces puts the hay just far enough from the edge of the cutting that my tractor's tires, don't stomp on the hay I cut the previous round. I like that. Since my fields are all highly irregular, I have to use a Tedder to smooth out the sharp corners with which I have to deal anyway so it's a no brainer. I'm usually fighting the weather for a cut and fast dry requirement so I Ted numerous times anyway, regardless of the type cutter, for that reason.
