I know some of you are going to start something political, go ahead, and you can deal with the moderator. I have to post to vent though.

If any of you have applied for the CFAP payment for cattle and are expecting a big payment because that's what the calculator on the USDA website says, don't spend the money yet, that's all I can tell you. Unless you actually sold cattle between January 15 and April 16, you're out of luck. Those big numbers that look like they're what you'll get for inventory, guess again. You'll get $33 a head, or should I say $26.40 a head since they only pay 80%. If you sold cattle after April 16 and took it in the backside like I did, you'll have to eat it. You'll get the $26.40, even though, in my case I sold for more than $350 a head less than I was getting in early January.

I'm seeing red right now. That chart is confusing. I talked to both gals at the FSA office and they said I'm not the only one who was confused about it. I'm just warning you, don't get your hopes up. This is just the latest in the feel good scams. I ended up with just 22.47% of what I was expecting.

I need to call them about my very few head of cattle, my small acres of crops, and about signing up for certifying this year.

I don’t like telephones, I prefer face to face ways of doing business, so this is going to be a long year for me.

Really don’t know what to expect from any of that, have gotten zero info from the govt on any of it but I hear the offices are closed unless you are real special.

In general, seems the govt offices are closed all over, while most businesses are open or trying to be open as much as allowed, pretty backwards to what we should have in a crisis, the govt runs and hides. That is my ‘political’ rant, and I’m not caring who is in charge I just think it says a lot that our govt shuts down in a crisis more that real businesses do.

producers sent me a sheet of what I sold to turn in but I never looked into it. prob wont now

That was the big problem here, they were closed and I had to do it over the phone, and they still are. She did make one mistake and has the ones that I sold down as cull cows instead of fat cattle, so I have a few hundred more dollars coming, but WAY and I mean WAY short of what the calculator said I had coming. If we could have talked over the counter instead of on the phone with me looking at a screen, it might have all been more clear.

Somebody needs to tell the ag media what's really going on. I've heard reports on Ag Day about the average payment being $13,000, that it depends on what the commodity is, that livestock producers were getting the bulk of it, how the average payments to dairy farmers in Wisconsin was $45,900 so far and all that hokum. I guess maybe I can get a tank of gas with what I got for 175 head of cattle, if I don't buy a candy bar while I'm inside paying for it.

My local fsa office has tables set up outside for you to do all the signing. They hand it out the window to you.

Here's the chart from the website that makes you think you're getting something.

The county FSA director just called me. He said he was under the impression that they were supposed to pay us for what's in the first column since it says Part 1 payment rate, but when they got down in to the instructions, they found out they had to pay us the CCC part 2 rate, less 20%, even though there was no CCC part 1. He said he was on a national conference call last week and it came up. Now he and the office staff have to clean up the mess that the website has made by leading everybody to believe they would finally get something meaningful. I told him that after 25 years on board of Review, he has my sympathy.

Our FSA office has been really good with email. They emailed the maps for certification then we printed them, drew lines, scanned and emailed them back, for me we can do that until I quit this dog and pony show. Cfap was the same way all email.
