How long after castrating

I kind of answered my own question with a Google search, but how long can a bull breed after he's castrated?

When we banded calves a year ago last fall, I had one that I couldn't get one teste down on. I had the vet come out and cut it out on June 24 last year. That's when I paid the bill anyway in my records, so it might have been earlier than that when he was here. I turned some feeders out a month ago and noticed a heifer that seemed to be making a little bag. She was quite slim looking and had no signs of any swelling under her tail. I made note of her tag number and hoped it was just a fat bag.

Yesterday morning, I found here down over the hill laying dead. She had tried to calve and didn't survive it. A search said that there can be some swimmers in the upper cord for up to 21 days. That would have been mid July for him, and would have had the heifer calving mid to late April, not mid June, unless I missed a finger when I counted it off. I don't know how the heck it happened. I had one calve in the feedlot a year ago last Thanksgiving the same way, no exposure to the bull. That one was bigger and she and her calf survived though.

Was always told 3 weeks, but 4 to be safe. She had to be bred last Oct if calf was full term.
