German millet companion seeds?

What would be good to mix in with German
millet for a one season harvest of dry
hay. Lighter soil. Was thinking red
clover, maybe some field peas? Would be
sold, and used for beef hay. Please
advise, i appreciate the help

I enjoy mixing some cover crop stuff in under my small grains. Some for grazing, some for plow down. I’m not so familiar with the hay type of fun seeds.

Getting late for this year, but the red clover and even the cheap alfalfa I plant with the oats sometimes has pretty good growth by the time seed sets. And, some years not.... peas also do well and vine on the oats and can set pods by the time the oats is turning. They can be a little tough to dry down.

We have been planting a tri mix on ground that has been rotated out of alfalfa.. Its beardless wheat and barley and oats.. we cut it and bale it for our own cattle feed. We plant it for 2 or 3 years while we cultivate to clean up and prepare to re-establish new alfalfa stands. We try to use as few chemical's as we can.
