Picking corn in snow

I know you can't combine corn after a snowfall but could you pick corn with a NI mounted picker with gathering unit and husking bed? Since you're not shelling the corn would you be alright or will it still plug up? Thanks, Mark

You should be fine if it is below freezing. The snow will kick out with the husks or stalks. We did it years ago with a New idea uni-mounted picker.

You'll be alright if the snow is off the stalks or if it's below freezing. Not more than two hours ago,I went and tried to pick a load to grind. It went good down the west side of the field where the snow had blown off the stalks. Coming back up the east side, the snow was heavy on the stalks and the temp was just about freezing. The wet snow piled up between the snapping rolls and the primary elevator then the stalks started breaking off and piling up. It was a nightmare. I got enough to grind one batch of feed. Looks like I'll be filling the same crib twice because all I can do for a while is grind the stuff that I put in the crib last week.

Randy, over time I have looked at the pictures you post and zoomed in on your corncribs.you have perfect ears of corn,no shelling on the ends. Nice picking job!

It works better, but as others mentioned there is still a limit, the picker will still gum up with the pasty type snow.
