1994 ford f super duty opinions

what do yall think of this model truck? i have never owned a diesel pickup before, and looking for one i can pull a gooseneck for hay and tractors etc. neighbor has one for sale, it looks to be in decent shape. will need tires in the near future. its got the 7.3 turbo with 5 speed. 10ft flatbed with the gooseneck ball already in the bed. he is asking 1500 for it, which seems like a decent deal to me. going to take a closer look and test drive it in couple of days what do i need to be looking for.

Which engine does it have?
Early model 94's has 7.3 mechanical pump with turbo
Later model 94's had the early 7.3 power stroke engines
A nephew has a late production 94, it's badged as a 7.3 turbo but came with a electronically injected 7.3 power stroke.

I cant speak to the 7.3 engine but I have a 1992 f350 crew cab 2wd 5 speed with the 460 gas engine. Truck does fine for what your intending. I pull a 24ft gooseneck with tractor and implements on it most of the time. Somewhere around 10,000 lbs trailer and load. Suspension does fine.

pretty sure its the mechanical pump version, but not 100% sure. if it is, good or bad?

Brother in law had one, good engine with more power than the non turbo models, but a little less power than the power stroke.
Neighbor has had one for years and it just keeps going, he uses it for his farm use pulling loads locally.
I had a 95 F-350 Power Stroke, loved the truck, got good service from the engine other than one set of pricy injectors. It had the E40D automatic trans and with the loads I was pulling I had a number of trans failures, that's the reason i sold it and bought a 04 with manual trans.
The 04 is now Cummins powered, should that 7.3 turbo in the 94 lay down that truck would be a perfect platform for a 12 valve Cummins swap.

I have a 95 F450 super duty 460 gas with 4:63 ratio rear end. Last fall I put in a remanufactured E4od and
transmission has all the upgrades along with an oil pan that holds 2 gallons more fluid than stock pan with
tubes running through it for air to pass through pan ( with drain plug in pan). They also put larger
transmission oil cooler along with new fan clutch on fan. The transmission shop that did the work told me
with what has been done to transmission I will never have any problems with it as long as it is maintained
properly.

If you know nothing about diesel I would take someone with that does .Also get under it check spring
shackles, body mounts, and fuel tanks.

Been there, did all of that, 18 months later it split the case.
Wasn't really a trans issue, a electrical gremlin that we never could find as causing the trans to lock the convertor once it shifted into 2nd, then it would shift the remaining gears with the convertor locked (not good on a 1 ton truck with a gn trailer attached).
We swapped trans wiring harness, computers, within a week or two it would be back to locking the convertor in 2nd gear.
When it broke the forward drum in the 5th trans I was DONE, sold the truck setting right where it rolled to a stop on the side of the road.
Present truck has a 6 spd manual, very happy with it.

$1,500, or $15,000?? If it's the former, I'll take ten. Any diesel that runs well and is in generally good mechanical condition would be worth the latter. With new trucks going for 4 times that, you can do a lot of repairs before you get close to spending that much money on a lot of plastic and doodads...

If the body is in decent shape that's a good deal.
Around here a pickup that you can haul wood or junk in is worth $1500 min.
body wise just needs a good bath, and door hinges repined
