Hesston 310

Hi,
I bale approx. 40 acres a year in small square bales. My john deere 1209 haybine broke down last year and I have been searching for a new mower ever since. Yesterday I bought a Hesston 310 self propelled windrower and I'm already regretting it. I can't get the vari-speed transmission to go any faster than mowing speed and my owners manual is no help. I'm beginning to think I should have bought a pull type again. I don't know where to go from here, should I just try to sell the machine or risk it breaking down during the hay season as I'm sure it will.

Thanks for any input!

It surely has a low and high range gear box. But I know nothing about a 310 except it is pretty long in the tooth. We have a 1219 JD conditioner, has been excellent for us. We just have 27 acres of Alfalfa so it does less than a 100 a res a year.
