Fall planning for next years pumpkin patch

I just worked up an area of virgin soil,,hoping to plant pumpkins there next spring. What measures should I take for weed control? This area is about 1/2 acre and was previously always wet in the spring,by mid summer it dries up good enough for brush hogging. The grass gets shoulder high and burdock infested.I used an IH breaker plow behind my Super C and plowed about 8" deep,,After 2 days it was dry enough to disc,,So here is where it sits. This soil looks really nice and rich, with lots of rotten material. Is there a weed herbicide to apply this late in the year? Or do I wait until spring,,let it get green and then use weed herbicides?

Pumpkins are a late season crop So you won't usually plant till June. With that said you will have weeds by then so you will have to work up your soil again. There are pre emergant herbicides but pricey. With that small of area you can cultivate or spot spray until they canopy over. You should check your Ph this fall in case you need to adjust.
