Herbicide for oats

What rrlund said, but if you are seeding clover or alfalfa with the oats do not spray it with the 24D.

It will kill the legumes if they are up and growing.

There is a 2,4-D formulation that can be used on alfalfa. I think it used to be called MPCA? Different than the amine or ester formulations.

mcpa is not 2,4-D. i believe it's the same mode of action, but different. might you be thinking of 2,4-DB? safe for legumes, but non-legume broadleafs convert it to 2,4-D

That sounds familiar- haven"t used it for over 30 years, but I knew of a product that worked. Had the same discussion with an uncle about that time- said there is no 2,4-D for alfalfa. Dad used one for years, CRS says it was an amine.

I should of said its for oats only.
Does the amine have a longer residual than lv4 or ester?

1/2 pt. of MCPA, an 1/8 pt. of Banvel mixes in helps but isn't absolutely required, Amine is a little tougher on small grain and used to be used for corn at a 1/4 pt. rate and a 1/2 pt. of Banvel.

I use Buctril M (bayer product)You can tank mix with stratego (fungicide)for one pass application of your herbicide and your fungicide.I am in central ontario can.
