Brodcast Alfalfa

I tore up 2.5 acres of brome for alfalfa. Last Friday I got 2.5" of much needed rain then Tuesday I worked ground twice more and broadcast 16LB per acre going 3 different directions with the broadcaster mounted on four wheeler. I did not have any way to pack the ground though. Went out last night and saw that a few seeds had already "broken open" and then we got a nice 20 hundrenths rain on it before dark then last night about another 1/2".........I am hoping that this does good as seed was $240 for the bag..........any thoughts......

'Sounds like it's going to work. The rains which you've received should do an adequate job of seed "incorporation". What you need now is for the ground to remain wet for a few days. Like my dad used to say, "You've made your nest and laid your eggs. Just wait for them to hatch".

Sounds like the weather is cooperating to make up for lack of packing. It takes less fuel that way when it works, lol. Seed price sounds about right, I've been shopping this past week and found it from 162.00-305.00 a bag for the better varieties and 92.00-110.00 for the economy. I decided to try some WL 326 GZ, grazing type that was 162.00 by the pallet. I wanted some more Evermore and Enforcer but it went from 180.00 this past spring to 292.00 this fall. I'm hoping the weather cooperates with me as well as it is for you.

well they have put rain in the forcast for tuesday with the highs between now and then in the 80's
I planted Pioneer 54V046.........pretty good seed as I could have gotten $130 seed but it was a mix of who knows what...........Still crossing fingers......

Usually you would lightly incorperate the seed into the ground with a harrow or some other tool. But with the rains you may luck out.

Went out again tonight and there were lots of 2 leaf seedlings breaking through and starting to grow...........looks like the rains did their work........now if it only rains next week like they predict then I think I will be set..........looks like I "lucked out"

WOW what great weather we are having...........my luck must be holding......it has been lightly raining off and on for last week or so...........plants are shooting out the single leaf from the seedling two...........some are already shooting up the first trifoil leafs...........there are about 40-50 plans per square foot and looks awesome............there is some grass and weeds coming up to though.......should I worry about them or will they disappear after the first cutting next year? and should i wait till full bloom for before I cut the first cutting next year?

The weeds will be later coming than the alfalfa in the spring.

The alfalfa will drown out the weeds.

Sounds like it will be just fine to me without spraying the weeds.

DANG I wanted rain but this is getting out of hand.........Alfalfa looks great but it has been raining non stop for a week and now they are predicting another 6-10 inches the next two days...........just my luck I get a great stand up and it looks good with its firt trifoil leaves then it will be too much rain and kill it all.............UGHHHHHH
