O.T. '92 jimmy intermittent battery discharge

I have a problem with my dad's 92 s 15 gmc jimmy. It will ocassionally discharge the battery. It seems to happen in streaks. It will be fine for 2-3 months, then it will discharge when setting for 2-3 weeks. I can not find a light on or a reason for it. The battery is only about a year old. all ideas appreciated

I would bet money that the battery connections are loose or dirty, mine was doing that and i replaced the ends on the cables made sure it was all clean, not a problem since...Bob

The problem is probably in your alternator/regulator. If you have a diode going bad in your regulator, it will cause this problem.

The mirrors on the back of the sun visors, are they illuminated? Sometimes the switch will stick on even with the visor folded closed.

Does it have an add-on autostart/security system/remote door locker?

That's the FIRST thing I'd look for as that's typical behavior of one of those abominations.

You may have one hidden under the dash and don't know it from a PO who didn't pass along the keyfob remote.

my daughters 93 z-71 had the same problem. intermittent dead battery. changed alt, new battery, still would ocassionally do it. finally found out it was the light in the glove box. it would occassionally come on, contact switch was pretty sensitive, pulled the bulb out and tossed it!! no more problems.

A friend of mine had a car that the battery would go down and he installed a new battery and alternator and it didn't help. He asked if I would to try and figure out what was wrong. We found out that the switch for the after market fog lights was on but you couldn't see the lights because they had covers over them.
