I have a john deere 4230 and have replaced the pump.It runs alittle fast on the timing.Does anyone know what the timing mark on the flywheel looks like? It's in a small hole on the cab.

Use the bolt that holdes the cover in place.Reverse it.Stick it in the hole and turn the flywheel until the bolt bottoms in the timing mark hole. It takes a special gear to turn the flywheel.

MSB your close but not right. The type you are talking about are on the utility tractors only.

Chris, the timing cover on a JD 4320 is not a small hole on the cab. It is located on the right side of the clutch housing. It is about six inches under and in front of the brake pedals, right in front of the brake valve. It is about two inches long and one inch tall. It has Flat screw driver slotted bolts on the top right and bottom left corners. It has a cork gasket under it too. There is a mark on the clutch housing under the cover. The flywheel has a straight line across the out side face that is marked TDC. You should be able to get to the cover under the right front corner of the cab.
