Fertilize for centipede grass

We put some centipede grass out on our Church yard. The grass blocks, not seed. What is the best kind of fertilize to put on it, and when. I know we have to put lots of water to it to get started to growing.

Check with the people you bought it from. As a second alternative check with your local golf course. Most are very sharp on grass, etc. Since it is for a church everyone should be helpful.

Finally, don't forget about your county extension agent. He may be more familiar with your soil type.
 
This link should help you. Centipede is known in the South as lazy man's grass. It doesnt need alot of nitrogen. Its naturally a lime green color, so people tend to over fertilize to acheive a dark green lawn. Iron will help without the nitrogen. Get a soil test, just a few bucks, and your extension office will tell you exactly what it needs. Here's the link:
