oil in distributor

Most have a spiral cut on the shaft that deflects the oil back down as the shaft spins. Take the shaft out and clean the groves.

I agree groves could be clogged up. Also check the crankcase breather on some engines. If it is clogged it will force oil where it should not be.

Specifically WHAT is an "a cub"?

IH made an "A" and a "Cub", but (AFAIK, NOT an "A Cub") and the "A" engine and the "Cub" engine are COMPLETELY different.

Hum. you better study this well. some old fashioned distributor housings were designed to hold an ounce or two of lub oil. I had an engine with a screw in 'grease cup'on the shaft tube. Do you have a repair or operator's manual?
