Minneapolis- Molie Calendar Pose question

Flipped the office calendar over to May this AM and found this G900. Noticed an interesting looking connection between the stack and the air prefilter. Never seen such a critter before and wondered of anyone here knew what it was?
My guess is a venturi in the exhaust to create a vacuum to suck dirt out of the prefilter.
Anybody know what it is for sure?

You've got it figured out.

One thing I've learned on this Forum that amazes me is how much equipment and farming practices vary in different areas of the country.

Around here, aftermarket precleaners just like the one in the photo were "common as dirt" in the 60's and 70's.

I'm trying to remember... was it M&W or MC that made a lot of them (or perhaps BOTH)?

Of course, more modern tractors have more or less the same system, just less visible.

The cyclone part is built into the aircleaner and the aspirator is built into the muffler, or a part of the fan shroud, using "suction" from the engine cooling fan.

That is an aspirator. It swirls the incoming air and the heavy particals, (dirt) seperate to the outside of the chamber where vacume from the exaust sucks the dirt out and up the stack. Have you ever seen a DYSON vacume cleaner add? These units were standard equipment on Case 1370s and up, and were mounted under the hood and the tube was bolted to the base of the muffler. They were said to remove 90% of the dirt before reaching the air cleaner, thus reducing air cleaner maintainance and improving intake air quality.

OH! Stupid me! That thing is amazing- pulling all that crap out of the beautiful clear blue sky! And all those years I thought my combine was smoking!

they are pretty common in ohio. im hoping he doesnt have any big
hills. idk if he has enough tractor to pull that rake. =)
