O/T Briggs and Stratton

I know this is a little of topic but you guys always seem to know the answers. I am looking for your guys input on a briggs and stratton shortblock, or reman engine or reman short block for a 16hp vanguard model 303777, type 0344-02, code 92060811 5429. Mine broke a connecting rod over the weekend. Anyway, like most people nowadays money is tight, so I would prefer not to have to buy a new engine. I would prefer the same engine because I already changed it from a kawasaki to a briggs, so I have already re-wired everything, made up an exhaust, throttle cable, fuel lines etc. Also, were these engines made with different size crankshafts? I need the replacement to be the same size for the fan clutch assembly. Thank you advance for any help/suggestions.

Best cheap source would be another donor machine like the one the Briggs came out of. Lots of people pull a trailer or roller with their lawn tractor and blow the transaxle.

If you give the model & spec numbers to a supply place such as a small engine repair shop they should be able to tellyou. The crankshsft should be the same unless someone changed it out , but the model & spec # should tell you what is standard on that engine.

I bought a lawn tractor a few years ago with a
Briggs 16 h.p. twin with a broken rod (which took
out the oil slings, cam, two lifters and the lifter
bores). Bought a new short block, as there was no
repairing what I had. Don't know if reman blocks are
available. If you can find a complete reman for the
same $$ or less than a new short block, I think I'd
go that way. Might be worth checking ebay for parts,
too. As long as the model, type and code match, you
should be getting the same size shaft.

You might want to look up the "Shelby Mall" in Shelby, Ohio..
They ship country-wide and have parts or complete engines as cheap as I have seen anywhere..
SO much stuff there...!!

Ron..

303777, type 0344-02 does have a short block available for 600.00. Everything about that short block should be the same as your engine.

Did you check small engines warehouse? They might have a complete new engine for about what a short block will cost you. Tom
