Aluminum rims

Try the aluminium cleaner from your local NAPA. Other chains may have similar but I know the NAPA stuff works. When I got my pickup the rims on it were beyond being brown with brake dust, and I don't think they had ever been cleaned. I had to soak them down several times with the cleaner, and give them a light scrubbing with a scotchbrite pad to get them looking alike aluminium again. From there get some Mothers aluminium polish and your set. You can hand polish if you want but for me, I got one of the Power Balls and put it on my cordless drill. It didn't take long like that and the rims shined like they were new. One thing, don't let the looks of the Power Ball fool you. Being foam it looks like it's junk and won't last any time but I've used mine a good bit since getting it and it has yet to fly apart like I thought it would....and it beats the heck out of polishing by hand.

NO sandblasting...use cleaner/polish and protectent. Find as truck stops/auto parts stores. There are a bunch of different brands...read/follow label directions.

After you polish, is there anything you can put on to preserve the shine? I've got an aluminum head for the Hudson that would sure look nice all polished up, but don't want to have to keep re-doing it.

Ive had some pretty nasty lookin aluminum wheels on my trucks before. I always start with some rubbing compound and then follow with some mothers wheel polish with a powerball. Workt pretty good several times for me

NO sandblasting. Alum is soft the sand would dull them forever. Never dull is a great polish to use

if you watch the speed channel when they have car sections on it, they are always showing products to take care of wheels.

Most people will cringe at this thought but OOOO steel wool works great on AL wheels. And if you have a set of coated wheels(most factory wheels are coated)you know the ones that fester up and peel, "Air Craft Paint Stripper"I have seen it at Wally World, I think that is the name, it will take the coating off and leaves a nice shinny finish behind.
