Help identifying engine

I am looking at buying a crawler with a stuck engine and I do not know what the engine is or if I can get parts for it. The block on the right side has the letters GM 3937746 and the manifold (which needs to be replaced or repaired) has GM 3828271. I am guessing that GM may be for General Motors, but I don't know. In the ad the seller stated that the engine was not original and that he thought it might be an 'Iron Duke' which I have never heard of. I asked about the crawler on the crawler forum but I figured I'd ask about the engine on here since it is probably in other machines too. Thank you very much.

Yup,4cyl chevy.First eng in a Chevy II.Also used very much today in small family inboard-outboard applications.Same bolt pattern as all chevys.Put a 6.2 diesel in it! Hoss

my guess, chev made 4-cyl for the early nova's. unless the same motor, amc also put a 4-banger in some of their smaller cars. gremlins, pacers. amc used anyone car parts to build their cars.

Known as the "Iron Duke",I believe. They have been in every thing from MerCruisers to stock cars (dirt track)

CLOSE, but NO....

It's a 153 CID 4-cylinder version of the Chevy 230 CID 6-cylinder. The "Iron Duke" is a whole 'nuther engine.

I have it's TWIN, from an Owatonna swather, complete with the same sickly GREEN paint and belt-driven governor.
Iron Duke
