Hi,I have the 7/16 bolts out all the way, starter will move about a 1" then no more what can I do to pull it all the out, thanks for the help Louie

I think you will find those are 5/16 bolts not 7/16 but any how hope you put nuts on the bolts so as not to have many parts of the starter in you hand instead of a whole starter. You may have to remove the oil filter canister and maybe the block drain plug. And even then you have to wiggle and turn and work at it to pull it out but it will come out

Hi Old,there isnt thing stoping the starter from coming out as far as oil filter,or plugs,I can move it all around but can"t get it all the way out,I must be doing something wrong, thanks Louie

Louie.......besides holding yer tongue just rite, ya gotta nut them 5/16 coarse 8" screws so it don't fall apart in yer 'rasslin' the Bendix UP and OVER from behind the starter flywheel ring gear. Kinda point the end of the starter motor in and down toward the water drain. Simple, eh? .......Dell

If you leave the nuts off and pull the starter apart the rest will come out easy. You have to take it apart to repair it anyway. Use the nuts to hold it together to go back in.

the starter bendix is engaged to the flywheelgear
if you put it back in place and start the engine towing or outherwise then shut it off and it shuld come out not easy but easyer than when it is engaged . OR you can take the band off and lift the brushes remove it a pieco at a time down to the armetur and the rear plate jiggle a bit it has top get past the flywheel old art
