Herbicide question?

Due to biblical rains here for the last month my usual chisel, disc, plant and spray routine isnt in the cards this year. My cover crop (wheat) is about 8 to 10 in high. Would you guys just burn it down with round-up or use something like bicep or curvex. Something that is a pre and post emerge sounds like a good idea, ive just never used anything but round-up. Almost forgot going to be planting corn. Thanks for the help.

I would use both Roundup and a pre emerge such as Bicep.

Here in Iowa a lot if not most farmers use a pre emerge herb even with roundup corn.

Reason being to help get weeds that may be or will be roundup resistant in the future.

Most pre emerge, by themselves, may have trouble burning down the wheat.

If this continues, will you consider leaving the wheat, and harvesting it?
The few acres of wheat I had broadcast as cover are looking better every day it rains !
Apparently there's no end in sight for this weather pattern.

Hi Gary. According to the reports out of TX & KS wheat can only go up. Back in the 70s a neighbor no-tilled beans in his wheat, cut the wheat and cut the beans in the fall. I never found out how he came out on the deal.

I would suggest using Roundup and also a preemerge herbicide such as Bicep or Lexar. Here you can't overdo the herbicide early. It is better for yeilds if you hit it hard early, then possibly there will be no postemerge trip, but don't count on it.
