Good Friday egg myth

Anybody heard the story that an egg laid on Good Friday won't rot? On Friday my sis called me and said she read about this in the paper. One lady claims she has been saving Good Friday eggs since 1957 and none of them has rotted, they just dry up inside. So I took a couple of our eggs that had been laid Friday, put them in a butter tub and set it on a shelf in the garage. When I smell the first whiff, they're going out the door. Jim

You should have posted this on Friday that way I could have tested it my self but now I can not since I have no clue which eggs where laid on Friday. I get between 4 and 18 eggs a day all depending on the chickens and the weather

Jim,
We make pyansky- which is a ukranian style decorated egg that is unboiled, unbaked, unblown, yet stays good for - ever - given a few conditions. The egg has to be flawless- no crackes or weak points. It needs to breathe - keep it in a well ventilated place, not an air- tight container. It also needs to be kept from freezing or cracking. Eventually pyansky will dry out and dehydrate, so they won't stink even if they do break.
It does not matter what day it was laid on - just the conditions. (So, take it out of the garage, check it for cracks, and put it someplace warm, well ventilated, and safe. If you leave it in the butter containter you will have a stinky mess.)

I kind of had it in the back of my mind that there was something more to this. I do remember finding eggs in the haystack when I was a kid, that were old and they were just dried up inside.

The butter tub is open topped and the garage is getting reasonably warm for the contitions we've had this spring. I'm just leery of keeping it in the house just in case. Some of those old eggs in the haystack did not dry up and I haven't forgotten the smell after all these years. Sorry, Rich, didn't think of posting this on Friday. Maybe next year. Jim (with nose plugs ready)

Even better - if it also works with eggs laid after good friday you know it is not about the date but the storing conditions.
