OT - Toro Walk Behind Mower Blowing Oil

OK, any small engine experts. Have this Toro mower about 2 years old and it is losing oil. Upon examination it seems be dripping from the heat transfer fins at the head. A pretty good pool of oil accumulates on the deck after an hour of usage. Think it is probably blowing towards the fins where it collects and drips to the deck. Any thought on where this is coming from and how to go about fixing it. Need to use the mower if it ever stops raining here (PA).

Thanks,

Kirk

Are you sure it does not have too much oil in it. Kawasaki engines on Deere mowers will make you think they are about to come apart when the problem is only too much oil.

I'm going to take a guess it is a B/S engine. If so check the tube going from the side of the engine to the carb air cleaner area and make sure it is good. Also could be the PCV valve that is part of where that tube goes to the engine. If it is a valve in head engine could be the valve cover gasket also

I can't say that it wasn't overfull at some time in the past, but I usually am pretty careful about stuff like that. I bought it new. Can say that until this spring it was not doing this. So maybe something that might have deteriorated over a winter of neglect.

My John Deere LX280 rider with the Kawasaki motor did that at 300 hours. The rings were shot, the cylinders still had cross hatching. I put rings in it, and works good at 400 hours. I am a little scared it will not last long.
