Deere MT Drive

I just picked up a John Deere MT. The motor is spinning free however when its in gear you can still roll it over. It's like its not connected inside some how. Does anyone have any ideas where I should start?

There is a "driveshaft" that runs from the clutch back to the transmission input. If someone split the tractor and didn't put that in correctly it might cause that or maybe your transmission input shaft could have issues as well. And as the above poster said it could be a clutch issue too. You'll probably have to split it to find out much more.

Following the strategy of easiest things first .......

Remove the shifter cover from the tranny. See if the input shaft
turns with the clutch out when you turn the engine.

If not, it's the clutch.

If yes, its the tranny

Good idea. Following that line of thinking you could also engage the PTO and spin the engine and see if the pto shaft turns.

I had a issue with my JD 40. I thought it was the clutch but when I split the tractor the propeller shaft through the transmission was broke. The front and rear had to be spilit for this repair. John Deere had the part for $800.00.
A weld repaired the shaft.

Your "M" has a drive shaft that goes from the clutch to the transmission input shaft. It is common for these to strip the splines. You will have to split the tractor to find out the problem.
