With at least 15 mowing or discing jobs lined up I let my wife talk me into going to the San Diego wild amimal park with the grand kids. When I have work to do, I want to get it done. I guess I am a work acholic. I think I got that from my Dad, seams like he was always working. I will give it heack tomorrow. Stan

Good for you. The grandkids won't stay little and fun forever.

I worked for a neighbor when I was a kid, with his son. We both really humped, and got a lot done (made and hauled 250 tons of small bales every summer, plus irrigation and everything else). Dad would sometimes come out about 3 on a really hot day, and say "Lets call 'er a day, boys- there's probably some pretty girls down at the lake. We'll give 'er heck tomorrow."

Best guy I ever worked for. RIP, Bob Thomsen.

We try to get to most of the grandkids activities. Some days it just doesn't work, but we try. Haven't regretted going to any of their events. Oldest grandson graduated from high school last May. Was an all-state football player, was on the state champion track team and was MVP on the basketball team. Sure had a lot of fun watching him and his teammates participate.

Good for you Chief. I was raised on a tobacco farm in North Carolina by seperated parents and Grandparents. My Grandfather was a huge influence in my life as were my mother and father... but they all were workaholics as they had to be to have us all survive. I spent much of my time with grandpa riding in his lap on the tractor or what other work was being done because that was the only time with him. I was trucking tobacco by myself at 7. I lost grandpa when I was 14 and the family farm was sold by his kids, excluding my mom, so there went the dream of me being a farmer. I now own my own HVAC buisness but I too am a workaholic who did not spent the time I should have with my three kids to aquire the nice home, cars, allow my wife to be a stay at home mom and put the kids through college. Now at 50 I missed alot but look forward to time for the grandkids when they come. Workaholic is not the worst label to have but all that it causes you to miss can produce a time for you to reposses and administer it to the next generation. They will love you just as much and remember you forever just as I do my grandpa. Good for you Granddad Chief, a day well spent!

One of our sons lived in Oceanside (We live in Oakdale, jusr east of Modesto) and they took us to the wild animal park once. Incredible!!
What I remember most though was one of the larakeet's cr*pping on my head.
For those that don't know, a larakeet is like a small parrot and you can feed them this nectar they have there. They're very tame and love to perch on you while you feed them the juice.
If ya'll ever make it to SoCal, don't miss the park and also the San Diego Zoo.
