Have you got them back yet??????? Saw the 1st one today, heard (never saw one) the first Cuckoo on Sunday. Guess summer is here... Are there cuckoos in the States other than in office or neighbors??????

Dave

Hated to answer you but as long as you brought it up. I think there are more "birds" sending in some of these messages than one can count.?!?1ggp

Yes, I saw one sunday. Darned near fell over cause I couldn't believe what I saw. Was burning come CRP grass and a swallow came swooping down for bugs. We always think May is when they show up here in northern Iowa. Jim

Monday I saw some mud swallows swooping around by the Crow river in central Minnesota. Looked twice to be sure they had the twin swallow tails. I agree it's early for them but there were swarms of bugs in the air too. No mosquitoes yet!

Haven't noticed any barn swallows yet in Southern Illinois.

We have yellow billed cuckoos. An interesting bird. I like to hear their call. The old folks called them "rain crows".

(quoted from post at 02:26:26 04/21/11) Hi Dave, we got the swallows back 10 days ago here in the UK. MJ

Guess I was blind..Couple old guys just told me they have been here 10 days or so............ Or they just didn't want me to be the first to see them

They are not here in Maine yet.I suspect they follow the bug hatch.I have had them fly around my head very close to get me to open the big barn doors. They wont leave me alone until I open the door enough for them to fly in.I wonder where they nested before man built barns. There are 2 nests in the tieup. They dont like me being in there but get used to me.I also wonder how they learned to bother me until I open the big door.

yes. found eggs in the middle of my barn between the section feeding and milking right next to a calf in the barn. throught them being born i see qiute a few fall out of the nest come crashing down. had a cat about 3 yrs ago that would go up into the rafters and find birds. took care of that poupulation. dont know what happened to it. just disapered.
