Don't feel so bad now

I had quite a case of buyers remorse when I bought that second bull at the tested bull sale last month. I advertised the old bull for a few weeks for $2000 and never got a call,so I took him to the sale barn Monday and sent him off for bologna. That old bugger brought better than $1900. I took a fat steer and a heifer along with him. The heifer brought $1.10 and the steer brought 1.15.
Geez,I remember a few years ago when I got $.9450 for a steer and my cousin said that would probably be the most I'd ever get out of one. If I sent one now and it ONLY brought that,I'd be madder than a wet hen.

rrlund,

I sold three calves last Thursday in Columbia, TN. They were all a little over 450 lbs. The heifer brought $1.50 and the two bulls each brought about $1.40.

That's certainly the most I've ever gotten for my calves. A year ago they were going for less than a dollar.

A few years ago when beef was low a friend put a male calf out by the road in a pen with a sign FREE on it, in order to get out of feeding it. He went back out just before dark to bring it back and there were three of them in the pen.

I'm likeing the prices right now for sure, but are we makeing more or is the dollar just not worth much?

Thought you were gonna say they took the pen and left the calf. LOL
Back in the spring of 08 with high priced fuel, fertilizer and corn,a neighbor was just crying about all of it. He wasn't gonna buy anymore calves,it was the end of the world,he wanted to know what I was gonna do. I told him I was going on about my business and wasn't paying any attention to what anybody else was doing. He didn't know how I was gonna do that. I asked him,if he didn't buy any more, what was he going to have to sell in a few years? I noticed when I went by there today,he has pulled most all of his fences out. Oh well, his loss.

I had a Herford bull that I tried to sell for 800 bucks.A fellow ofered me 700 for him and I refused .The bull dropped dead two weeks later.

Ya,I'm just a little nervous now, only having these 2 new ones. With that old one around here,at least I had a backup. As bad as he tore up the other old bull his size last year though,I was afraid he'd kill one of these smaller ones for sure. The old boy weighed 2265. Quite the carcas for an Angus.

I sold 8 fats and two cull cows last week. We had one 1480 pound steer bring $1.315, the fats averaged 1.275. Keep farmin for your whole life you see the highs and the lows and you end up getting average price!
