O/T Best way to deal with ANTS?

We have lived in this house for almost ten years and never had a problem like this. Ants have found my daughters bedroom and also the kitchen. These are very small ants. They are finding a way into the house somehow. How can I get rid of them? Spraying around the outside of the house, bait stations, ????. What has been the most successful way you have found of dealing with them?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Christopher

Boric Acid(white powder in a canister) - I get mine at Ace Hardware. Knockes them out - sprinkle around base boards, sliding glass door tracks, window ledges, etc. Gone are the ants, spiders or anything else that crawls across it - including "Roaches". sliver fish, etc. All the things that find there way into your home!!!!
And no odor!

i have used the bait stations and have good luck with them. it takes about a week, but it kills the whole nest. seems if you just spray, the re-route and get in some where else. after you get the nest taken care of, you can barrier spray around your foundation.

I sprinkle lawn and garden soil insecticide all around the foundation on the outside of the house, and I use a product called "BUGMAX" on the rimjoists all around on the inside. I also spray the bugmax at the base of the kitchen cabinets with a healthy dose of it under the sink where the plumbing comes through the floor. I sometimes even spray it on the baseboards all around the house. I still see an occasional ant on the countertop, but we no longer have the infestations we had before. Both of the products I mentioned need to be applied several times per year. Gets rid of spiders, crickets, and several other insects also.

..and mix a little powdered sugar in with the Borax..sweet gives them the incentive to eat more and they literally blow up inside their bodies

Fire ants are very small ants. They don't usually come into houses, but I have seen them in our house a time or two.

I would hate for you to get them, but if you're in the southern part of Missouri, the winters may be mild enough for them to migrate there.
They're in Arkansas already.

They will get rid of your ticks & chiggers, though.

The bait we use is 1 part sugar, 1 part dry yeast and 1 part boric acid. Mix them up - the sugar and yeast entice the ants to eat tth mixture and the boric acid kills them. Works!

Another thing you can do is to get Diatomaceous earth which can be used as an insecticide, due to its physico-sorptive properties. The fine powder absorbs lipids from the waxy outer layer of insects" exoskeletons, causing them to dehydrate. Just sprinkle it where they walk. The residue is non-toxic and easily vacuumed up.

(quoted from post at 06:30:30 04/13/11) Is food attracting them to your daughters bed-
-room? Hidden snacks?

Greygoat has it right.
They're attracted by food, so that's the reason they're there.

Napalm works but it is a little messy. I have had the same problem around standby generators. I had to put bait around the genset and in the control box. But most of the stuff I used was really nasty. I have heard that orange peels will drive them out. Don.t know if it will work. You might ask the local feed store what they have. That would be safe around kids and pets

Go to www.doityourselfpestcontrol.com

Buy a liquid called Tempo SC. Works great for killing ants and other bugs. Use as directed.
$50 for an 8 ounce bottle of concentrate. Mix with water. Use pump sprayer.

Had problem in kitchen with small ants and fought them inside for years. Solved the problem by spraying/soaking a small strip of soil around the house foundation with a heavy rate of insecticide. Best to dig down a couple of inches and form a trench. Lasted for ten years and had to do again a couple of years ago. Not necessary to spray inside.

I have had problems with the tiny black ants and have found a product called Terro that seems to work pretty well. http://www.terro.com/

Regent insecticide its not labeled but will kill them and they wont come back.Just spray around foundation and the yard and they will be gone for a couple of years. It aint cheap but nothing i have found works better for fire ants

Terro works good for wasps/bees that have a nest in a building wall. I take a 3x5 card fold it in a V shape, and tape it to the wall where they enter, make a landing strip . Couple drops of Terro, and replenish when it's gone. Few treatments, and they loose interest in the nest.

Agricultural Lorsban. You need a private pesticide applicators license to buy it here. Dilute it to the proper amount, then spray a 8" band around the base of the house.

I also have DDT and some Chloridane just in case.

When I did the spell check on Lorsban,it came up Lesbi*n. No, you cannot spray an 8" band of Lesbi*ns around the base of your house. As a matter of fact, it you bring some Lesbi*ns home, the wife may run you off.

Just a small serving of "ant rid" in a tin lid, take it back to the nest and all gone

or

Sprinkle talcum powder around, apparently don't like walking in it.

or

Place a separate dish of food with a sign "This is yours"

Spread a 10' wide band around the house of the latest Epa approved insecticide sold at your favorite store. Few times a year and sometimes after a rain. The band will keep them out of the area around the house so they won't enter anymore.

I was having problems with a few ants in the kitchen and bathroom. I had the floor (between the floor joists) of the house foamed(4 inches) yesterday and today I haven't seen any ants.
