My stihl 028 does not fire right when cutting wood . I rebuilt the carb and the same problem. I was wondering if it may be the points or gas line may have a hole in it some where. The gas filter and muffler screen are clean. Any thoughts on where the problem is Regards

I've got a 290 farmboss and it started cutting out on me last spring. Choked it and it fired up for a little while and died.

Mine was the fuel line. Cracked right were it enters the gas tank. I ended up using generic fuel line instead of the stihl molded one and cut the nipple piece out of the old and snaked the new line through it.

It sure sounds like that could be your problem as well.

Stihls are famous for fuel line problems. Almost to the point where you check them before electrical issues, which is backwards in most cases.

Check fuel strainer in tank.
check fuel line to carb.
check breather from crankcase to carb?
check breather for fuel tank vent.
