Tiller Aerator

Have any of you used one of these for your yard? I'm thinking of making one using conduit or pipe for the spikes. I know it would be easier to just buy one but I'm too cheap to pay the $170 for one. The spikes would be straight on mine instead of curved and I would have to use 4 spikes in place of the tiller tines instead of the 3 that this one has. What do you think? Am I just wasting my time?

Thanks.

i have an old john deere 4 section rotary hoe. i just hook one of the sections up behind the lawn mower and drag it around the yard to loosen stuff up. also works pretty good for re-seeding areas. broadcast spread the run the hoe over a couple times.

Most that I've seen (including mine) have straight spikes. I lucked out some years ago. I found some four tine rotors in a salvage yard. I think I paid a dime a pound for them. Making the frame was a snap.

Think I've got it figured out. It will probably take me a few weeks to get to it. Got lots of other stuff to take care of first. If anyone is interested I will take some pictures if it works.

I did a similar weld up job a few years back. Rent a good walk behind unit, like a Ryan, Turfco, bluebird, Claussen, or Lesco. Your back will thank you, and its less junk sitting around, all year. I own a Ryan, and aerate lawns for a living, so I do have some experience, in this field...
