OT- Finally went fishing.

I took time off Sunday to finally wet a hook after almost 3 years. I had forgotten how much the family enjoys this and I think I'll have to make time for this through out the summer from here on out.

Everyone got a few crappie along with a couple worthy of the frying pan.

As the day grew into mid-day it got a little warmer. Thus we ended up in the water with the fish.

Here's my better half showing off her first fish of her life. She's been fishing before but never actually wet a hook for herself. Had I known!

In between helping get lines out of trees, snags in the water, fish off hooks and knots tied, I was happy just to spectate.

Outstanding! Fishing is always up there in my list of things to do. The person who can"t be excited with the tug of a fish, no matter how small, is probably not alive. Great pics.

Very nice--what's the Jeep? I had a '76 CJ7 that looked very close to that. Just got rid of it a bit over a year ago to a kid who did a complete restore on it with his father over last winter.

That's a '74 CJ-6. It was a barn find that I got about 5 years ago and has become a family pet. It had been sitting in that barn for about 10 years when I came across it and offered to buy it.

Here's what I found. I had no idea about what a cj-6 was at the time, but it's pretty much a cj-5 with an additional 20" wheel base. It comes in real handy having that extra room in the back. Since we've bought it and gave it allot of TLC it's kept the kids and myself pretty happy. It's hauled out a few deer and allot of wild hogs from our hunts. This weekend was it's first fishing trip though. My girls love to ride on the seats in front but I took them off to add a receiver and bumper rack to the front. I need to get back to the shop and find away to add the seats where I can take them off again easily. Just more stuff to do. The first time I saw it with those seats I thought I was looking at something straight out of the move Hatari!

Fun stuff. I recognize the crappie, but what is the silver fish your wife has? I do remember that running a family fishing trip is just about a full time job, without fishing yourself.

Son and grandson wanted to go fishing last spring. I had been wanting an aluminum boat I could carry in the back of the pickup, and small enough that I could horse it in and out. Found an 8' aluminum "john boat" or "pram" on Craiglist- flat nose, wide, and pretty stable.

Took it to local lake, with electric trolling motor, on opening day. A couple hours into the adventure, were "boarded" by the Sheriff's boat- could only have two people in a boat that size! Tried to reason with the deputy- Son and Grandson together don't weigh as much as me, and it could just as easily have been me and an equally portly friend, so more total weight. She wasn't buying it, but didn't give me a ticket- just herded us back to the boat launch.

So, back to the drawing board- looking for a little bigger boat for this year.

Thanks for sharing the pics. The little dog looks like an especially good helper.

That's a large mouth bass. For some reason all the bass had real light colors. This particular pond is all sand with very little vegetation growing in it, so I suppose the fish have adapted to the color. I'm guessing though.

As far as the dog, she has a fascination with lures flying though the air and we have to pay attention to her at all times. She's actually not much help at all, but part of the family none the less.

Was kind of kidding about the "helper" dog- we have a Pomeranian, and I expect the end result is about the same- lots of yapping and leaping about!

I'm assuming it's a manual shift. Be sure those girls learn to drive it. Not too many people today can manage a manual transmission anymore.

Very nice! My CJ-7 had a hard top, automatic transmission, and the early Quadra-Trac all-wheel-drive system--it engaged with wheel slippage and could be locked in full time by twisting a knob located in the glove compartment. Got it with under 30,000 miles on it in (roughly) 2003 from a pair of old bachelor brothers who had used it as their "Sunday go to meeting" vehicle, and other than a distinct aroma that left no doubt it had been stored in a barn for many years it was in excellent shape. Those front-mounted seats look like an absolute blast, though I could picture them being more than a little rough to ride in!

By the way, from the size of the fish, you need to fish that pond a little more, and don't throw them back unless really little. You'll never get any big ones if they are overcrowded!

Tim, those seats are actually the best ride on the jeep. It's really like just floating over the land. Sit in the back and you'll get beat up a bit. I'm going to put some long leafs on her one of these days. Maybe by 2015 by the way my list is shaping up!

The girls have the jeep figured out and drive it well. No power steering, no power brakes and can shift it well. Although the youngest did move a pretty heavy duty cattle feeder about 3 feet once and the other has found the ditch a few times, but they can drive it! They learned at ages 10 and 12. (Part of the country girl training course!) They're both pretty dang good shots too and took 2 bucks and doe between them this year alone. Sorry, but if you give me a reason to brag, I tend to run with it.

Mike, this pond is really low due to our drought, but it's not our pond, so we just took enough for dinner and left the rest. We need some rain! My pond is really small and right behind the house but this place is at a friend's and really has some nice scenery. Perfect for just getting away from the house and away from other folks for a bit.

I appreciate the comments fellas!
