nature's wrath

Had a bunch of tornadoes come through a few miles south and east of me here in nw. iowa. Two villages pretty well demolished near me and a ton of livestock buildings wiped away. Feed mill my son hauls for knows of 30 hog buildings gone. They hold around 900head each. Farm houses wiped off the map too and it's all scattered in the fields. Still posting with the droid cause internet is still down. Jim

Saw pictures of it on the Weather Channel. Looks like Wisconsin's getting slammed now. We're down wind, but as cold as Lake Michigan is and as late as it's coming through, they say it'll weaken considerable. Hope so.

We're in the NE corner of WI, near Rhinelander. Just had a system come through about 7:30. Sounded a bit scary, but nothing more than wind, rain, hail & thunder.
Merrill got a twister, they're about 30 miles SW of us.
It's too bad to hear of other damage to property & livlihood. I was worried for my own for a little bit. Sorry to hear it.

The bad stuff was 100 miles south of sanborn. I don't think sanborn even had any rain. We had 2 inches. Jim

got lucky just west of you a bit as we were supposed to get large hail and 60 mph winds. Ended up just sprinkled a bit and a strong breeze. Tough break for all of those people, good news nobody was killed and everything else can be replaced.

Here in central Iowa we had nothing but nice weather yesterday. I didn't hear of the tornadoes til the news came on just now.

Seems like the real destruction was in a band from south of sioux city and heading northeast. Mapleton was hit awfully hard. Its se of sioux city. My neice's husband was passing through mapleton when it hit. He parked his semi, ran to a house and rode it out in the basement. Don't think the truck was hurt. He was hauling anhydrous ammonia or 'smoke', as we call it.

There were more than those 30 hog confinements lost. The 30 werejust the ones this one feed mill serves. A few big turkey buildings.were lost. Most of the hogs were still in their pens. Don't know about the turkeys. My guess is it scattered the turkeys because they aren't protected by a cement foundation like the hogs are. Pigs aren't built to fly the way turkeys are. Jim
