Modern view hesitation?

Does anyone else that views this forum with Modern view have a problem with a hesitation(stall) when you first try to access forum? Chris(the moderator) and I have discussed this issue and I wondering if it has to do with my ISP which is HughesNet.Thanks as always,Jim

I've got satillite internet too. I think its the inherent latency we suffer because of the time it takes for our request to make the round trip from your computer to the satillite up in space then back down to the earth station then to the gateway, (mine is in Duluth, Mn.) the turn around and make the trip back again........Once the connection is made and you have downloaded the first page it gets faster from the same website. But we only talking 1 but less than 2 seconds to make the round trip. So probably is something else......

I usually have no problems when I first log on, but many times after I have been here for awhile the whole site will just lock up. When that happens I can sometimes cure it by going to the classic view for a few seconds, and then go back to modern and it all is well, but sometimes I have to get clear out of YT, go to another website for several minutes, and then I can come back to modern view and all is well once again. I am on DSL, and I use FireFox.

I guess that I am an "old coot" I like being able to see the whole thread before opening the thread. I am very slow to change many things. My computer is one of these things. I have a new computer, less than six months old.I had a old friend build it for me so I still have XP as the operating system. I don"t like the newer operating systems as well. Gates is screwing up by not servicing the older stuff. Too many computer guys leave money on the table by dumping us older system users. My system is an example. Two younger guys refused to build what "I" wanted. So they missed out on any of my business, will not be going back to them either.

considering the "modern" view of this forum is an antique and "classic" is a dinosaur in computer terms I think the lag is built into the site. It is the only one I visit that has the delay and the problems that Rustyfarmall describes, yep I get them same problems as Rusty

I experience this most of the time.

FYI 36F30 the Modern server was upgraded a little while back. That's when I started experiencing the LAG. I'm older than I was was 66 yrs ago but I prefer the Modern view as it reminds me of my youth when I milked cows by hand.

JDseller,
I am another old coot and like you I like to see the whole thread and who is talking to whom. With the modern view it looks like each new reply is added to the bottom and it is hard to figure out who is responding to something someone says.

I have HughesNet.

A Modern View page load will stall once in a great while. When that happens, I click the reload/refresh button to stop the page load, then immediately click it again and the page will load normally. On a Mac.

I always use Classic and rarely switch to Modern. YT Classic has always been one of the fastest on the interweb, even back in 1999 when I started going to the Ford Forum with dialup. Modern is a time-waster with only 15 posts per page; it has that annoying 'bump' feature; it also doesn't provide the list of who's posting.

Yes, the new replies ARE added at the bottom, or at least they are supposed to be. YT has attempted to merge the classic and the modern, which seems to result in the replies getting scrambled in BOTH versions.

For what its worth, I am an old coot also, and I'll take the modern version anyday.

FYI upgrading the server (hardware) does not upgrade the programs (software) running on the server. Its kinda like putting a 250 hp new diesel motor in a worn out Farmall H and trying to use it to pull a 36' field finisher.

That is what the quote button is for. If people would use it, their posts would make sense.

I guess I'm a really an old coot - I don't know
what the modern version is, or where to find it!

ust look at the [b:cee6d981aa]red bar[/color:cee6d981aa][/b:cee6d981aa] at top of the towards the right side, it says modern view in [b:cee6d981aa]blue[/b:cee6d981aa][/color:cee6d981aa], click on that.
