I'm wondering if anyone can help me out, I have an old 145 and I need brakes. They were apparently hanging up a bit, got hot and started on fire. I'm having a bugger of a time finding parts and was wondering if anyone out there knew what they would be. I know they're old truck parts but I'm not sure what and the parts stores haven't been very helpful.
 
I would go around to local heavy truck shops and just look for a mechanic with some brains that could steer you in the right direction. I would think that if you found a 65 year old semi truck mechanic he could help.
 
Is this tractor in the '68 - '71 range that had hydraulic brakes?

We used to walk into a clutch and brake relining shop (Northern Brake, Minot, ND) and they'd take a quick look and go grab the parts, but I don't know what the truck application was. You got a place like that near you?

The parts APPEAR to be still available from FIAT... look up the exact parts you need at the site linked below and call your dealer to find out for sure.

dont know where youre located but All state ag parts in Iowa claims to have a salvage 145, on external_link you can search for parts, a few came up as having 145's for parts.
 
It,s been 25 years since I owned a 145, but I seem to remember the driveline brake as being Versatile stuff, not truck parts.
Used to be dozens of them in my area, these guys will have whatever you need. They have an entire Versatile 4wd tractor section.:)

Memory is getting a bit less foggy, you guys are right. Versitile had a big truck drum driveline brake , in the rear frame section ?
The later steigers had a single steiger built disc brake on the front driveshaft.
 
It NOT really a "big truck" brake, more like a front brake drum on a medium-duty truck.
 
Your right, more like a 1-1/2 -2 ton truck. Just bigger than the typical compact or 1/2 ton "truck" so many talk about ;-)
