Remember about a month ago,I posted about a rusted front rim on a loader tractor that had split out? Somebody said there wasn't any real danger because the pressure dropped when it bulged? Wanna bet? The one on the other side did it last night and I didn't catch it in time. My ears are still ringing! What a BOOM! The wife was at the neighbors and said she thought a shotgun had gone off. That one blew on the inside and blew with so much force,it cleaned years of crusty manure and mud off the hub. It turned it white like it had been burned off with a torch.
Good idea to take a look at some of these old rims on older loader tractors guys. Somebody could easily be killed from one of those things splitting out.

That or me cussing because I had to hunt up another wheel so I could finish feeding cattle!

Yep a common blow out and yep they make a lot of noise. But then if you where on the tractor sitting next to the tire yep your ears would ring

I was bush hogging with my 300U a few years back and shut the tractor off, then heard a huge "BOOM" noise. I thought it had backfired, and I was cussing because it was running so good up until then. That's when I looked at the "to-be-restored" Allis CA sitting right next to the 300U and noticed the blown out front tire. It must have blown right when I shut off the 300U. Definitely gets your attention.

Years ago I did maintenance work on the township road grader. The operator almost had a heart attack when the rear tire blew out. He had the side doors open and the concussion broke the windshield. He was grading along the woods and thought someone shot it out with a shotgun.

While 36 PSI sounds like "low" pressure, consider that is 36 pounds of force for every square inch of tire area. Calculate the square inches of the side wall from tread to bead ( as that will be the part that moves when a rim flange comes off ) and you will see that is a lot of pressure.

Also consider that when seating the bead on a just mounted tire, high shock forces are generated. This is why going over recommended seating pressure isn't recommended.

Want another shock? Make 2 radial saw cuts 3 inches apart into the edge of a car rim, ( cut down the the bead seat ) now take vise grips and bend the cut portion, not much strength huh? What gives a wheel its strength is the shape, if that shape suffers a discontinuity, it will fail.

I heard what sounded like a stick of dynamite go off inside a building where I was working. It was wheelbarrow tire that blew!!! They were carrying a little too much cement in it. Nobody believed a wheelbarrow tire would blow with that much force until we saw the tire. There was nothing left of it.

I had the drive tire on a combine blow that is directly under the seat, I don't remember the noise so much but remember the seat droping out from under me as the machine went down, was only a 10 x 24 but still droped fast.

Couple years ago on the farm on a sunny summer day I heard what sounded like a shotgun or dynamite go off behind the barn. No guns on the farm so I was a bit confused, until a couple days later I saw a blown tire on our disk. The tread was peeled off like an orange.
