Looking at a 2003 Duramax. How many engine hours do you guys think these engines will last for? The one I'm looking at has 6000hrs. I know there is lots of factors to this question but I was just wondering..
Thanks Todd

Actually, it's made in Moraine (Dayton), OH by DMAX Ltd, a joint venture between GM and ISUZU.

Todd,
A rule of thumb used is 40mph ave. Ifyou have 6000 hrs that would be roughly 240K miles.

I didn't answer your question, because as you said there are a lot of other factors. Mileage, maint. did it spend a lot of time idling. From what I have seen, the truck wears out way before the engine if properly maintained. I believe the 2003s were out of the injector problem. You can google to be sure.

I put a bid on a truck the other day it had 345,000 miles, 2004 D/max. It sold for 12,000. I was shocked, way more than I would have paid.

I have a 05 with 233,000 miles and roughly 4,600 hrs. I had to replace the fuel press reg at 230k, and front wheel bearings at 170,000k. It could use brakes but I want to try and get 250k out of them just to see if I can. I wouldn't let the hrs scare me I have seen 10k hr equipment in way better shape than 3k hr equipment, just depends if the owner gave a flip or not

Thanks for the help guys, I trust tractor guys. It has 268,000 kms so it looks like it has not spent most of its life ideling like alot of Oil Rig trucks I have seen. Will go check it out on Saturday and report back if I have any more questions. Did do a Google search and reviews/Good & Bad in 2003 came back fairly highly rated.

Ive got an 03 G.M.C. with the duramax . I absolutly love it . The injectors are a known problem but if they havent gone bad with those miles on it they probably wont . Not saying they wont wear out . Everything does . I love my truck though . Wheel bearings and tie rods are also known problems . Timken makes a replacemant thats gauranteed for life though .

I've seen 40 quoted , the Cummins B engine service manual lists mile / hous service intervals that work out to 35 MPH.

By the time the above truck gets resold, I bet it shows 145,000 miles.

I have a 07 with 3000 hours, just getting broke in. I am trading it in next week, not because of the hours, I am just tired of it.
