1066 hydraulics

I have a 1066 and the last couple of winters after starting it the red light would stay on on the dash and when it finally went out I got power steering. Today I was discing and after a while it wouldn"t lift the disc. After it set and idled for a while probably 30 min. it lifted it. The after i got going again it stopped lifing it again the cylinder would move out till it got the weight on it. And it would"nt even lift a 4 section harrow cart. Has my pump gone bad? it has plenty of oil in it.

if the little light is on that your mcv multiple control valve pump which is also power steering and breaks if your remote or 3pt hitch is not working that is you lift hitch pump, MPC pump is behind plate on left side front of torque housing. hitch pump is behind plate lower left side close to final drive. it could be two blown 0-ring on that pump where it mounts that where i would start you have to drain oil to remove ether pump

Im a long ways from a 1066 expert but i do own one but havent driven it much the last 10 years but i do remember something or another about the three point and the float pos.,,,,had to be in the right pos i think?????????

Most likely hitch pump is bad, but could be the mounting 0-ring on the hitch pump plate. First thing you want to check though is that you don't have the hitch position control lever all the way down into the action control range as that will dump most of the oil. Pull your hitch lever to raise a bit. If that is ok, I think I would slip in a different relief valve from some other similar IH tractor. Anything from 656 to a 1586 will fit just for checking .

I should have been more specific I guess. You do indeed have two seperate pumps. One is mcv pump for tractor controls, power steering , ta , brakes and lube. Other pump is refered to as hitch pump and opertes hitch and aux valves. Part I was addressing was the no lift from the aux valves. Him telling me it would operate cyl until it needed to actually lift some weight tells me it is pumping oil therefore primed up , coming through filter etc but does not have the oomph to do the job. That is why I made suggestions I made. The power steering is a whole different matter . Could be weak pump, sucking air between tractor rear frame at suction tube or other mcv problems. I usually run warmed up system at maybe 1000rpm, cramp steering wheel and hold and if lube light comes on that will indicate a weak mcv pump.

it is only doing this after it gets hot. when it coold down it works fine. i took the relief valve out and ih said they had no way to check it. i dont have access to a different one. could it be old oil and moister in it and filter combo.
