Anyone have any experience with one? Considering buying a Ford 4610 diesel with front wheel assist to use as a chore tractor. It has a loader and cab with heat, so I think it would be just about the right size for feeding round bales of hay all winter and in the muddy spring that MN seems to offer each year. Not planning to use it for field work, just moving hay and other loader projects.

I bought a 4600 SU Diesel,2 wheel drive, new in 1979 and had it tell we sold the farm in 1999,it was our main chore tractor,it had at that time over 5300 hrs,we put a water pump in it and 1 or 2 battery"s,thats all, never had it in the shop for any repairs, running a Heston 1090 mo co it used just (1 gallon per hr) changed the oil every 100 hrs and NEVER HAD AN ISSUE,if it came from a good home buy it.............

They're a good tractor. About as tough and reliable as you'll get in that class and quite able. Probably do a lot more work than you'd really expect of it. Downside is that with a cab and loader.... repairs are difficult. Also... if it's got the flat roof, LP cab.... not such a nice environment as cabs of that vintage go... but it is a cab. If it's an early white stripe it may still have a Q-Cab (round roof) which was a better cab... but it increases the overall height of the tractor and probably makes it heavier and harder again to work on...
Personally I'd sooner an open station in that size of Ford.
The tractor will be stone cold reliable tho if it's been maintained at all.

I have a 4610 2W, open station and I"ve fed the cows a every winter with it using large round bales. I"d prefer the 4wd units with a loader to handles rounds. I think for your indicated use it"s a great machine.

A farmer friend of the family has a Ford 4000 deisel that I do maintenance on. That's all I do to it. It just goes and goes. Great tractor.

Go over the FWA well and make sure it is in good shape. Parts/repairs are not cheap.

If its in good shape, they are a great tractor. My 3930 is a little smaller on the HP than the 46xx but that whole 10 and 30 series just work and work.

Thanks for the info. guys. Sound like handy tractors, but my definition of good condition and the sellers weren't the same, and for $14,500 I wanted it to be darn nice. Not faded paint, dented, cut out, and missing sheet metal, and bald slick tires. It was all of $6000 to high in my opinion.

Around here... in the condition you want... they're closer to 20K on the dealer lot. That's not to say you can't work that price down.... but the real nice ones start over 20K.
It's a popular tractor with good features in a segment that's in demand for a wide range of uses.
Add to the fact that you can't buy that much tractor (features) in that size class today new for any price....
