We raise Shetland sheep. Their wool is a specialty wool, and popular with hand made crafters. That said, we still have to find the markets... Wife goes to crafting shows and festivals and sells roving, hand spun yarn, quilt bats, and knitted products. We have quite a stock pile built up over the several years we"ve been doing this. We have 59 in the flock, plus a couple newborns - with a couple or more on the way.. Also have 5 Angora goats and 4 llamas who also contribute wool. Raise our own feed, hay and oats. So feed is fairly cheap - although we suppliment the oats with a commercial feed.

All said, we"re probably loosing money. Wanna buy some wool?

Add a few meat breed sheep to the flock. A couple of years back you could barely get $50.00 a lamb at the auction barn now $270.00 a lamb id pretty common. Not sure what has changed that much in the Ohio market but nice if you had the cheap sheep.
