What was the first tractor you ever bought?Do you still have it?----1960 JD 730electric start diesel.Purchaced Nov'77,forced to sell '82(sob/cry :^( ).I wish I had another one

AC model C, sn 23349, with two row cultivator, put together 1943, year before Mom did that for me. Bought when I was a sophomore in high school, from sale of an FFA project bull calf, about 1959.

MF 1085, bought it at a sale and traded it 2 years later for an 1135 MF for little of nothing (the allowance for the 1085) the 1135 has been a good tractor, but sure wish we had kept the 1085 also.

1956 Fordson Major, liked it so much I didn't buy the Factory but a Super Major, have both. I tell a lie, Fergy TEA20 my little runabout. marvellous how the cattle tend to give you the runaround when on foot, but hop in the tractor and take a dog.. not so dum critters.

I was 12 years old, worked all summer hay'n for
neighbors sometimes for 2.00 a day with lunch
added. I bought a Oliver 60 R/C for $35.00. Had
3 flat tires, it would run but all I hade for a
tire pump was a bicycle hand pump.. If any of
you ever pumped up a rear tractor tire with a
hand pump you know you've done something. I had
the tractor for a few years & sold it to some
drunk for $650.00 & bought my 1st car a 66
Fairlane XL.. However it got wrapped around a
tree in 6 months do to my expert driving
skills...Have had many other since then I'm 54
years old. Most I still have.... RLA

AC model WD, good tractor in its day. Still have it, has not ran in years, in process of being restored.
Currently looking for a Deere 2040, lot easier to mow under trees, power steering, better brakes etc.

Hey RLA,
I heard the guy that bought your Fairlane (after you wrapped it around that tree) beat the dents out, dropped in some fresh HP and gave it a coat of paint and is still driving it!

1943 Farmall A bought it with the money I made helping neighbors hay. Bought it in '73 when I was 12 yrs old. sold the cultivators, snow blade, mower and plow to pay for new tires. wish I had found another way to pay for the tires, still use it today.

1946 Allis Chalmers B. Traded it for a WD, but the guy that currently owns it is taking good care of it and has promised me first chance at buying it back. When the time comes, I'm sure I will.

My first tractor was a John Deere 530 which I bought in 1978 and still have and will never sell. Dad and I went to the sale where it was selling and he wanted to buy the tractor. He bid on it a couple of times and stopped way below what I thought it was worth. About the time it was going to be sold I hit it a couple of times and got it (still reasonable, btw). Dad was standing on the other side of the tractor and looked at me and flashed me a big smile. I will always think he stopped bidding so I could get the tractor. We drove it home 25 miles in the middle of January and had a ball. Each of us would drive 5 or 6 miles (it was probably zero outside) and then drive the pickup to warm up. We got home and played with it the rest of the day. A little over a year later Dad was killed in a truck accident. I cherish these memories. Mike

Bought our first place in 1972, moved on in June, hired a guy to cut and rake the hay. He had an 8N with an MF DynaBalance mower. He didn't take it home when he got done- said he'd lost his shirt making hay, wanted to sell me the outfit for 900 bucks. Sounded good to me- I grew up with an 8N, and hadn't got educated by you guys yet as to what a POS they are. Local banker was a National Guard buddy, he gave me the money on my signature.

Sold it to a goat farmer in a couple of years (he still has it- put a one-arm loader on it) and moved on to bigger and better things. "Tractor jockeyed" a bit, counted up the other day and guess I've owned about 40 tractors over my lifetime- still have 7 or 8.

1962 Ford 641 in 1976. Didn't look real ggod and had to rebuild engine next year. Still have it but needs to be restored.

1948 Allis Chalmers G. I plowed and tilled our garden with it and took it to tractor shows and parades. I miss it.

First tractor I ever bought was my 1953 Massey-Harris 33.

I've had it for 14 years now.. bought it when I was 16. Fixed it up, got it running, and farmed about 40 acres with it for a couple years.

It hasn't been ran in about 6 years now.. (It'll start up right now, but is partially disassembled for painting).. Gonna try to get it painted and put back together yet this spring/summer.

It's all part of the new plan.. It either has to run or it has to go. Tired of pushing/pulling everything from here to there.. So much easier to start and drive.

Brad

My first was a 1937 jd d. Bought it with manuals for $75.00. I bought in about 1970 and restored it. Just retired and getting ready to through it and other tractors I have.

Started farming on my own in 1964. (I must be one of those REALLY OLD GEEZERS) Neighbor 3 miles up the road had farm auction. Bought his 1951 Ollie 99 for $670 (don't know why I remember that, I can't remember what I had for breakfast 3 hrs ago). Also remember buying his 1951 JD Van Brunt drill for $110. The ol ollie was a decent tractor, but having been raised on Deeres, I traded it for an 820 a few years later and it turned out to be an excellent tractor, wish I still had them both.

My first tractor was a 88 Oliver I bought it from the Ford dealer not running for $300, I was a sophmore in high school way back in 1978 I used that tractor for about 4 years doing custom hay work.
I overhauled the engine, put a wide front on it, put a power steering kit on it and painted it, wish I still had it.

First was an Oliver 1950T, I bought it the summer before I went to high school. I sure wish I still had it, but I traded around and had a White 2-105 and a Oliver 1650 by the time I got out of school.

mine is a 1655 Oliver with a Farmhand loader that i purchased July eighth 1998 still got it its been handy !

First I bought was a Ford 971. Had it about 2 years, rebuilt the engine, and resold to the grandson of the original owner. Needed the cash to help pay for the Ford 7600.

Farmall B, I was 12, worked all summer sewing bags o a 123 IHC SP combine. $125.00 with a 6'disk, 1 bottom little wonder plow and a 6' grain drill. Planted 60 acres of wheat. 2 yrs. later got a Farmall M and then in 1972 traded both for a JD 4020 FWA. I farmed with JD for the next 20 years. Finally got my favorite tractor, a Farmall H, 3 yrs ago but had to sell for health reasons....James

A 1959 Allis D-17 with a gas engine. I still have it and use it regularly. I would like to take some time this coming winter and tear it apart somewhat to make it look/run nicer.

Christopher

1939 Farmall M with a cable lift loader. You needed a 2x4 to steer it with a full bucket of dirt.

'51 Ferguson TEA 2085. I'll never sell it. Just bought a MF 1085. That's the workhorse now. I am going to take a picture someday, the two of them, all painted up, together, as Fergie and Junior.

1948 AC B(stuck engine) when i was 12 yrs old in 62,it took al my savings, paid $100.We where still using horses back then.It was the first tractor ever on our farm.
I tore the engine apart till the last bolt and put it back together all by myself.I made the gaskets myself out of carton.i reused the head gasket.
It took 1/2 a year but i got it running.
Was a proud day for me!

I sold it 20 yrs later for the same money when i immigrated.(got stuck again)

560 Long, it was an add in at an auction, got it for the reserve 1500 bucks. It had a new long block the year before but the 3 pth didnt work. Flushed the hydraulic system and cleaned the inline filter. It gave me good service for 4-5 years. When I sold it I doubled my money.

First one I bought I wnet halfs with my dad on. He had 2 other tractor at the time which where a 1935 JD-B and a 194? Allis B. Both hand crank start. So we got a 1960 Ford 801/841 with a loader on it. I still have the Ford 841 and also the JD-B but the Allis B went swimming and was never the same after that

Downsouth,

I am 99% sure I welded the cage in that car in 2002-2003 time frame. I have pictures somewhere.

Rick

Hey Rick,
I reckon that's possible. I took these pictures at the Fiesta De La Feria in South Texas about a month ago. Never did bump into the owner, would have loved talking "Ford" with him.
Here are the other two pics I took of it.

Mine was a well worn, but running 1953 Minneapolis Moline UB. I bought it at an estate farm sale in 1983 for $160 and drove it home. I was 11 years old at the time. I used my bean walking money to buy it. Dad had it overhauled and we used it for odd jobs around the farm for many years.

Hey Downsouth nice look'en wheels..

Mine was a 390 with a c6.. The next year I
found another one like mine & so I drove that
till outa High School.. Still my favorite car.

1940 JD H, bought it in 1973. Used it until 1999, then restored it and showed it at Expo in 2001. And I still have it. I haven't run it all winter, but it'll probably start on the third pull. Great little tractor.

I had a 1960 electric start 730 too. I'm not really crying over the thing being gone.

But seriously,my first was an Allis Chalmers C in 1964. First REAL tractor was an Oliver 77 in 1969.

1948 JD A, bought in 1971. Dont remember the price but it was cheap, because the whole engine was in pieces. Hauled it home in boxes except for frame and trans/rear. Overhauled and painted it and still use it around the farm. Had to buy a farm in 1975 just so I had a place to use it LOL, been farming ever since.

WC Allis 37or38 with rod sticking out side of block. Welded piece back in found another rod. Got it running kinda. This at the tender age of 17. Got fixed rite at votech school sold few years later. So started what Iv been doing the last 40 years. Fixing someones equiptment or messing with stuff I bought to sell or use.

My first was a 1937 Case CC about1957 or 1958.I was about 19 at the time. Paid $ 50.00 for it. Was not stuck , puttered with it a lot & got it running & drove it home at 5 MPH. It took 1 1/2 hrs.
My son has it now. We are M-M people now but will keep the old CC in the family.

John Deere 2020 and an 8' JD back blade. I still have it but would like to trade it or sell it to buy a 1750, 1800, 1850 etc.... Oliver.

Its a good tractor but i'm ready for something different.

!947 John Deere A in 1976 for $400, the farmer I bought it from put enough gas in it so I could drive it home.
